There is a treat in store at Chelmsford for fans of the Kinks frontman Ray Davies.
The godfather of Britpop has penned some new songs to be performed at the Civic Theatre by the Britten Sinfonia and the Norfolk and Norwich Festival Chorus.
Sunday's 7.30pm concert will be only the second performance of "Ray Davies - English Songs". But judging by the world premiere in Norwich last week, when 700 people gave a standing ovation, success looks almost certain.
Famed for pop classics such as You Really Got Me and Sunny Afternoon, Ray Davies follows in the footsteps of Frank Zappa, whose Alien Orifice and The Black Page also feature in what is promised to be a "breathtaking" concert. Steve Reich's mesmerising Eight Lines completes the line-up.
Tickets priced £12 and £8.50, concessions £10.50 and £6.50, are available from the box office on 01245 606505.
