Play in the early part of Saturday's Essex Senior League match was evenly distributed and from end to end, with the defences, in the main, having the upper hand.

Concord took the lead in the 25th minute when goalkeeper Dave Pether made a rare error.

He came to collect a cross from the right, caught the ball at full stretch, but on the way down, the ball hit a defender's head dislodging it from the keeper's hands.

There followed a goalmouth scrimmage with the ball eventually falling to Phillips at the back post and he calmly tucked it into the net.

Brentwood lifted their game and produced several good chances before the break.

Grant Delea and James Grandison headed good chances over the bar from close range and Dave Stittle had an on target shot well saved by keeper King.

Brentwood were back on terms in the 50th minute when Delea broke past the last defender, but was held back on the edge of the area.

From the resultant free kick Paul Ellingford smashed an unstoppable shot into the net off the inside of the far post.

The visitors continued to dominate play and in the 65th minute they were rewarded with a well taken goal.

Dave Stittle's corner kick was met in full flight by Michael Gore who powered his header into the roof of the net.

The home side then put considerable pressure on the Blues defence. They were coping comfortably until 15 minutes from time when Concord were awarded a penalty when Bryant fell in the area. Heale converted the penalty.

This setback affected the visitors' concentration and they did well to with-stand some determined pressure from their opponents.

In the last few minutes a Concord defender missed his clearance allowing Gore clear with only the keeper to beat.

He did everything right and was past the keeper but placed his final touch wide of the post.
