Police today appealed for witnesses following a burglary and an attempted break-in at a block of flats in Witham.

A raider escaped with £200 of compact discs when he broke into a flat at Templemead, causing £200 damage.

An intruder was also disturbed during a break-in at another flat at Templemead and ran off across the Albert Pub car park.

Police say the suspect is six feet tall, in his late 30s to early 40s with greying black hair.

He was wearing a fur coat, jeans and black trainers and was carrying a blue holdall.

Anyone in the area about 12.45pm on Wednesday should contact police on 01376 501212.

Meanwhile, police are investigating another burglary at a house in Station Road, Hatfield Peverel.

Thieves found car keys inside the house and made off in a Volkswagen Golf car.
