A pensioner was trapped in a car for 45 minutes following a road accident in Little Clacton.

The smash happened at about 11.25am yesterday on Little Clacton Road and involved an Iveco lorry and a Volvo car.

A passenger in the Volvo, Rosemary Hughes, 74, of Elm Road, Little Clacton, was trapped by her legs for 45 minutes and sustained head injuries and serious leg injuries. She was taken to Colchester General Hospital, where she was detained.

The lorry driver, Peter Azes, of Marham in Norfolk, and the Volvo driver Douglas Hughes, also of Elm Road, Little Clacton, were unhurt in the accident.

An Alsatian dog in the Volvo was unhurt and was kept at the local police station until it could be collected.
