Angry residents have re-launched a petition complaining about traffic from nearby industrial estates.

Mark Moss, 35, of Wick Lane, Wickford, collected the 500 names three years ago but fears the noise, congestion and damage to vehicles in his street will worsen now permission has been given to have another four commercial units near his home.

The petition was originally presented to Basildon Council and police, but Mr Moss says nothing was ever done.

Traffic assessments carried out on weekends were "pointless", he said, because most of the units at Wickford Industrial Estate and Shotgate Business Park were shut.

Mark's mum June, 65, said: "The problem is there are only two ways to get to the industrial estates, driving all the way round the Southend Road or through Wick Lane which is much quicker."

In addition to re-submitting the petition, Mark, who lives with his mum, has delivered 100 flyers to all the houses in Wick Lane and Russell Gardens urging people to write or phone their councillors.

He said: "The industrial estate used to be just a little tin pot thing, but now it's massive and there's the Shotgate Business Park as well.

"Although heavy goods vehicles aren't allowed down here, large vans and cars still bomb down the road and traffic comes to a standstill at night.

"There has got to be a bridge or something created so there are more ways to get between the north and south of Wickford which is divided by a railway line."
