Old Chelmsfordians 'D' continue to set the pace in division five of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League and a convincing 8-2 win over third placed Danbury H leaves them with a perfect record of seven wins out of seven. Mick Hayes and John Ginn were both unbeaten.

Surprisingly, OCs are not having it all their own way despite boasting such an impressive record as Hatfield Peverel C only trail them by one point.

Peverel recorded two impressive victories themselves; a 10-0 whitewash of Highwood and an 8-2 win over Baddow Village E.

Neil Freeman took all six singles while Dave Fillery and Alan Tofts both took five out of six.

EPHQ moved out of the relegation zone with two excellent victories, 8-2 over Writtle D and 6-4 over Elmtree Graphics B.

George Bailey had two full houses and Ian Hockley with five wins out of six gave good support.

Elmtree Graphics B appear to be out of the reckoning after losing out narrowly to ECC M.

Arthur Clark, Colin Barham and promising Southend junior Neil Disley all won twice although none could get the better of an in form Nicola Pippen.

In Division Seven Baddow Village H have opened up what looks like a winning lead already, as 26 points out of a possible 28 shows their all round strength at this level and in Mark Salter they have found an excellent number one.

Salter was unbeaten against OCs F in the team's first fixture and his two wins abetted with an unbeaten return from Fred Henwood helped his side to an 8-2 success.

Owing to the vagaries of the Division Seven fixtures chart, the two teams met a week later and again Baddow triumphed although OCs got a point in the 7-3 defeat.

Salter was again unbeaten although newcomer Alf Farrant became the first player to take an end off him.

Diane Pitt excelled with a fine 23-21 in the third over Farrant and Peter Revell demonstrated the Baddow team's all round expertise with two comfortable wins from the number three spot on the score card.

Ingatestone B are trying to turn their run of defeats into points but lack of experience continues to hold them back.

Against Hatfield Peverel E, Malcolm Jacobs was too strong but the 9-1 loss they suffered does not do them justice.

James Batchellor missed out at 25-23 in the third to Margaret Spurgeon and Nick Ray came close against Margaret as well before succumbing -18, -19. Frank Hall took Ingatestone's sole game; a 22-20 in the third success over Andy Whiley.

All players are reminded that the closing date for entries to the Chelmsford Closed Tournament is Monday, December 7.

Entry forms can be found in the middle of the league hand-book and should be sent either via your Club Secretary or directly to the Tournament organiser Arthur Clark.
