Southend United boss Alvin Martin urged everybody on and off the pitch to band together for Saturday's crunch home game against Plymouth Argyle.

Blues have suffered a disastrous run of one win in 11 games culminating in last Saturday's 1-0 FA Cup home defeat at the hands of non-league Doncaster Rovers which sparked off calls from angry fans for Martin to quit.

"Supporters are feeling hard done by at the moment and I can understand that but their reaction certainly isn't helping the players who need all the backing they can get at the moment," said Martin.

"It's difficult for everyone but I would like to think that fans and players will put the Doncaster result out of their mind and push on.

"The last thing we need now is for everyone to lose faith and I'm sure a good win against Plymouth will help repair some of the damage and provide a real confidence booster for us all.

"I will put eleven players out on the park who will be hell bent on collecting three points - they will be as motivated and fully committed as I can get them."

Martin has injury doubts surrounding defender Leo Roget (hamstring) and Mick Gooding (sore knee) and won't be naming his line-up until just before the kick-off.

He would not reveal his likely formation although I suspect Blues might revert to three men at the back and wing-backs.

Plymouth have so many injury headaches that manager Kevin Hodges has even put himself on standby for the Roots Hall trip.
