A film crew was inundated with information after a This Is Essex and Evening Echo appeal for survivors of the Canvey floods.

We told how county councillor Ray Howard, born and bred on the island, was being filmed for a Carlton First Edition documentary about disasters.

The show's producers were inundated with other Canvey people who also wanted to tell their remarkable stories of the floods which claimed 59 lives.

Spokesman Nina Sebastiane, said: "We have had such a huge response from survivors that we are keen to thank all who called in."

The programme is still looking for one particular survivor of the 1953 flood.

Ms Sebastiane explained: "She would have been a baby at the time. Her name then was Linda Foster or Forrester and she was known in the press at the time as the 'miracle baby of 1953'.

"Last reports say she was working in Barclays Bank on Canvey, having been raised by her grandparents Mr and Mrs Stephens."
