Members of South Woodham Round Table have launched a campaign to distribute £10,000 to good causes in the town.

As part of the Fix-It Campaign, Round Tablers are inviting groups or individuals in the town to contact them to ask for donations or equipment.

"Basically we want to encourage people to write to us with details of their needy cause," said John Warner, of the Round Table.

To apply for money from the Round Table Fix-It fund, or for membership details, write to the South Woodham Round Table c/o This Is Essex, addressing your e-mail to Clare Youell.

"There is no real limit, we are perhaps looking at between £200 - £1,000, but all requests will be considered fairly and we also ask that applicants come from the South Woodham district, which includes the surrounding villages.

"It really could be almost anything, from a local organisation which needs some equipment to an older person who needs a new pair of glasses, or a student who wants to travel to Africa and needs backing," he said.

"We know it is sometimes hard for people to accept, but we really are offering them something for nothing. The Round Table is a charity and all we want to do is give the money away."

Mr Warner said the group had based the campaign on the successful Fix-It campaign devised by the Blackpool Progress Round Table in 1994, whose members won three national Round Table awards for their charity work.

The Round Table in South Woodham is also looking for new members to help with their charity work. To be eligible, you must be male and between the ages of 18-45.
