Saturday saw a sub-standard performance from a Jekyll and Hyde Chieftains team who appeared intent on frustrating their patient fans.

It was a game they were expected to win following the home victory over the same opponents a week before with a vastly weakened team.

Chieftains dominated the first period and peppered Thompson in the home net, but the Chill opened the scoring via Darrell who swept the puck past Dave Pinchin.

Chieftains drew level on 12.16 after good work by Karl Rogers and Anders Tjarnstrom set up Craig Metcalf to score.

Chieftains found themselves on a power play after a penalty to Lee Braithwaite and Jake French's strike from the blue line was deflected in by Richard Whiting.

Chieftains increased their lead when Glen Moorhouse and Rogers set up Jon Main to score.

In the second period a combination of Chill picking their game up and Chieftains, making careless errors and stepping off the gas, let the home side back into the game.

At 25.04, Chieftains were caught out when Darrell beat Pinchin for his second goal.

Chieftains briefly responded and went 4-2 up at 30.07 when Main and Tari Suwari set Metcalf away for the best goal of the night when the big forward fired the puck across Thompson.

Chieftains failed to convert a power-play situation and with all players again up ice, the returning Endicott was picked out on the blue line and gave Pinchin no chance to bring the deficit back to one goal.

With less than two minutes on the period clock, Chieftains' Suwari and Chill's Sean Tarr were ejected for fighting and Chieftains went in 4-3 ahead.

Chieftains came out for the third period looking drained and with Moorhouse in the sin-bin for a roughing call, Darrell and Endicott walked through the Chieftains' ranks to leave Josefsson the simple task of firing home to level the scores.

The Chelmsford team's fate was sealed with another gift goal when, having obtained a power play situation, French picked up a holding call.

The packs levelled, Lee Braithwaite won the puck and his pass was tucked away by Drew Chapman.
