Following their National Trophy victory at Cardiff the previous Saturday, Chelmsford Swifts went into their National League Division Two fixture on Saturday in confident mood.

Their opponents, Tyneside, had not made a particularly good start to the season, although they had taken the league leaders, Manchester, to overtime before losing by one point.

However, Swifts confidence soon evaporated in the face of an incredible shooting performance from Tyneside's junior international Sarah Hindmarch, 16, who produced a fine display.

After five minutes, Tyneside led 15-8 and Hindmarch had scored all of her team's points and after 11 minutes, the lead was 29-15 and her personal tally was 20.

Swifts, by that time, had changed their defensive formation, which restricted Hindmarch to just a further two points in the half.

However, the damage had been done as Tyne side led 49-31 at the break.

In the second half, Swifts came out much more aggressively, but again Hindmarch hit them for her team's first eight points of the half and 14 of their first 20.

Swifts, despite trailing by 25 points after nine minutes, scored 10 out of the next 24 points to give themselves hope of a famous recovery.

Tyneside remained calm and finished with a 94-74 victory, Hindmarch finishing with an outstanding 42 points.

For Swifts, Georgina Fernando had her most productive night of the season with 16 points, Nicola Kerr scored 12 points and Kathryn Davies, after a quiet first half scored 11, and 74 points was the Swifts highest score of the season.

The Cadet Swifts are back in action on Saturday after their game against Reading was called off last week due to Reading's withdrawal from the League.

They play Brentwood Fire at Hedley Walter School, tip-off 7.15 pm.

The Under 15 Swifts continue with the second round of Eastern Region League games at the Riverside Ice & Leisure Centre from 12noon till 5 pm.
