A 15-year-old girl has died following a road accident in Thorpe near Clacton.
An Essex Police spokesman said the accident happened at around 3pm on Tuesday when a the teenager, who came from the Great Clacton area, was crossing the road.
The girl was involved in a collision with a car which had been travelling towards Thorpe.
The 15-year-old sustained head injuries in the collision and although paramedics tried to stabilise her condition at the scene, she was later pronounced dead at Colchester General Hospital.
The girl's parents and relatives have been informed, but no formal identification has yet taken place and police are not yet releasing her name.
Traffic police are appealing for any witnesses to the accident to come forward. Anyone with information should contact Thorpe traffic police on (01255) 861455.
