A huge housing and flats development on an "island" in Wickford looks set to be given the thumbs up by councillors.

Twenty-three houses and 33 flats are being planned for the island-style piece of land on the roundabout near Nevendon Road and Halstead Court.

If approved, the development will consist of 19 three and four bedroom houses, two pairs of three bedroom semi-detached houses and four blocks of flats.

Access to the new development will be provided via the cul-de-sac section on Nevendon Road with a communal parking area available to owners of the flats.

A report to councillors recommends the plans be approved - and says that only two letters of objection to the scheme have been received from local residents.

Councillors will discuss the plans at a meeting of Wickford area committee at the Wick community centre on Tuesday at 7.30pm.
