Nature lovers are being asked for their opinions on alterations to bylaws planned for reserves at Mill Meadows and Norsey Woods, Billericay.

Earlier this year, Basildon Council drew up the legislation using models set by officials at the Department of Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR).

The council took on board comments and objections raised during a public consultation exercise during the summer, and have put forward to the DETR amendments to some of the by-laws.

Now residents have until Monday, January 18 to have their say.

At the moment there are no bylaws covering Mill Meadows and Norsey Wood. The new ones proposed are based on common sense and courtesy.

The department has already agreed dog owners can let their pets off the lead when visiting Norsey Woods and Mill Meadows, unless requested to put them back on by a council member of staff or a member of the public.

Other changes include restricting the use of certain equipment like personal stereos and mobile phones.

Copies of the amended by-laws are available at the Basildon Centre, Billericay Area Office, Billericay Library and Norsey Wood Information Centre.

Any comments on the draft bylaws should be made in writing to: Policy and Committee Services, Basildon District Council, St Martin's Square, Basildon, SS14 1DL. Please quote reference SS/3/BY-LAWS.
