Braintree completed a 'win double' over Coastal with a comfortable victory on a heavy pitch which made attractive football difficult to play.

It took just six minutes for Town to open the scoring when James Hawton netted with a shot from the edge of the penalty area.

This was added to by Chris Putt on 17 minutes who scored from close range after meeting a James Hawton cross.

Hawton added Town's third and fourth goals on 28 and 40 minutes as Braintree dominated the first half.

Whenever Coastal threatened they were easily dealt with by the Braintree defence with Chris Game having a particularly good match at right back.

Goals continued to flow in the second half with Hawton scoring the fifth on 47 minutes and Alex Crow netting a sixth on 49 minutes.

Hawton scored again to make it 7-0 in the 50th minute before netting an eighth and ninth in the space of nine further minutes.

Such was Braintree's dominance that they were able to swap their striker (who is also their reserve goalkeeper) with their regular goalkeeper Jamie Burridge and he scored the tenth and 13th goals.

Hawton's eighth goal was Braintree's 11th and this capped an outstanding display of front running and goal-scoring from a player who has played consistently well all season.

Matt Smith then came up from defence to score a 12th goal on 73 minutes and Alex Crow scored the 14th on 78 minutes to cap a powerful display from Braintree.

Although scoring 14 goals Braintree struggled to play their normal free flowing passing game because of the heavy pitch and, on a good surface, the score could have been considerably higher.

Braintree Town: Burrage, Game, Hollier, Smith, Reid (Kelly 50 mins), Crowe (Percival 47 mins), Batley (East 54 mins), Crow, Collins, Putt and Hawton.
