The Today's Runner Cross Country League ventured into Suffolk for the customarily tough Hadleigh hill hiking session on Sunday.

The organisers contrived to make full use of the hilly terrain with tough uphill slogs; fast downhill racing and sticky mud making it a genuine cross country event.

Tiptree Road Runners had a fantastic turnout mustering 31 runners.

The junior team had a good day, scoring 86 points to win the event, that despite two good runners, Michael Tann and Sam McNully, not being able to finish.

Mark Duffield led the team in followed immediately by Terry Samuels with both finishing second in their respective age groups.

Daniel Wright made a terrific debut at eight years old to finish 28th and complete the teams.

The ladies, not to be out run by the juniors, likewise put in a great performance with Helen Ivory leading the team in ninth place followed by Brigid Wallen producing her highest placing in the League to date.

The net result was a ladies team score of 36 points to finish the event third.

Chris Applegate put in a good performance in 19th to lead the team followed by Martyn Byford inside the top 30 and Mabon Dane did well to beat Kevin Bownes who ran a season's best in 45th.

Tony Price made a welcome return, as did Andy Dick and new member 'Arlie' ran a solid debut on the tough two-lap course as the men's team scored 330 points to finish seventh.

The combined senior results put Tiptree in sixth place overall, extending the lead at the top of Pool B in the league to four points.
