Brentwood's second half of the season started disappointingly on Saturday with a draw against lowly opposition.

Having taken the game to Welwyn for the first 15 minutes, Brentwood found themselves behind following a display of fine passing and accurate finishing from the visitors.

Looking to dig themselves out of trouble, the home side stepped up their effort and were rewarded by a number of short corners. These, however, came to nothing.

Going into the break, Brentwood remained a goal down but still optimistic that further chances would come in the second half.

Immediately from the restart, the home side took control of the game, allowing Welwyn little possession and few chances to get out of their own half.

The chances which had been expected at half time came and went however.

It was not until the 20th minute of the half had passed when sweeper Piper charged up the field and powered the ball to Wagstaff. A slight touch was all that was required to deflect the ball into the goal.

Playing against time as much as their opponents, Brentwood threw everything forward in search of the winner, while Welwyn dug their trenches and sat it out.

Wave after wave of attacks were thwarted by the visitors, which included a shot rebounding off the post and a strong appeal for a penalty being tuned down.

Welwyn's spoiling tactics were often punished with short corners but as in the first half, Brentwood failed to score and at the final whistle with the scores even, Brentwood were left to rue the chances that they missed.
