With injuries and illness taking hold of the club, Springfield Striders just managed to muster a team for the latest North Essex cross country fixture, at Hadleigh.

The ladies squad was particularly badly hit and the bare minimum of three ladies ran for the Striders.

Laura Graham, recovering from injury, Denise Reed, recovering from illness and Ann Claydon, pressed into last minute service, all acquitted themselves well on a hilly and heavy Hadleigh course.

The men, almost at full strength, achieved a fine result with only Colchester able to hold them off, and Kev Harris (4th) was first home.

Mark Healey (8th) and Phil Claydon (10th) both had their best runs of the season, and with Vic Spain (13th) and Dave Norman II (17th) packing in closely, second place was assured for the Striders.

The Striders are being kept off the top spot by Colchester, and with two fixtures remaining, the destination of the title could go to the very last race
