Maths matters!

That's the message from pupils at Grove Infants School in Rayleigh who are in the middle of a month-long project dedicated to the much-maligned subject.

The aim is to make maths interesting and exciting for young and old - with parents invited to get involved.

Numerous fun and games have been set up as well as a maths circuit in the school hall featuring problem-solving exercises.

Trish Hardy, deputy headteacher, said: "People are a bit anxious about maths but we are keen to show them there is nothing to be afraid of.

"It is something all of use every day in lots of different ways without realising. Maths is more than just a sheet of sums."

The initiative, which has two weeks left to run, is part of preparations at the school in Grove Road for the national numeracy project.
