U'S boss Mick Wadsworth is angling to bring in more players following the signing of Warren Aspinall on a month's loan from Brentford.

Aspinall is expected to play for Colchester United's reserves against Swindon on Wednesday.

But the search goes on for Wadsworth as he looks to provide competition for places.

He said: "I have put out some groundbait and we will see if we get a bite.

"Warren is here initially for a month and will provide competition in the midfield.

"I know what he is capable off. I had him at Carlisle and he did a great job."

Wadsworth is open-minded about signing Aspinall permanently but the 31-year-old becomes a free agent at the end of the season and it is unlikely Ron Noades would seek a fee.

Aspinall could make his U's debut on Friday against Wigan, his first club.

Since then the battling midfielder has played for Everton, Aston Villa, Portsmouth, Swansea, Bournemouth and Carlisle.
