Alex Birch, of Hutton, this week received confirmation that he has been selected for the Great Britain Youth Basketball team.
Alex, 16, a pupil at the St Martin's School, Hutton is captain of the school team and also finds time to play for Essex, England, and the Greater London Leopards.
Later this year Alex and his team mates will represent Britain in Florida and Denmark.
Mr Glyn Jones, Head of PE, at St Martin's said: "We are proud of Alex's achievements and wish him every success.
"We are now looking at the possibility of applying for a basketball sponsorship to the USA once he has finished his 'A' levels.
