Basildon Council's soccer schools are all set to kick-off again during next week's half-term break.

The four-day course at Markhams Chase Leisure Centre, Markhams Chase, Laindon, is the first of 12 schools that have been organised this year as part of the council's football development scheme.

Now in its fourth year, the school is open to boys and girls aged between six and 14 years who want to improve their game with FA-qualified coaches.

"It is my belief that anyone taking part in a chosen sport should have the chance to progress to their highest possible level," said the council's football development officer Gary Piggott, who has 17 years coaching experience.

"It is with this in mind that we have created the school as a natural pathway of progression.

"The emphasis on all our activities is work on personal development and trying to educate players as to the importance of technical ability, along with giving them an insight how best to prepare for their participation in football."

Next week's course runs from Monday to Thursday between 10am and 3pm. The mornings are spent training, with games in the afternoon for students to put what they have learned into practice.

The cost of the four days is £30 and participants will need to bring a packed lunch and suitable clothing.

There are still places available for next week. Contact Gary on 01268 533166 or the council's leisureline on 01268 294929 for more information.
