Exhibitors from throughout the south of England flocked to Corringham to show their miniature poultry at West Essex Bantam Club's annual show.

Nearly 350 birds were on display at the Shell Club in Springhouse Road. The show also attracted a steady flow of visitors and officials were kept busy answering questions about the birds.

The club's chairman Harry Prayel: "We were delighted at the number of entries. Exhibitors have travelled from all over the southern counties to show their bantams here.''

The show champion was a black rosecomb pullet exhibited by Mike Player from Kent. Reserve champion was an old English game cock exhibited by Pat Owers from Pitsea.

Alan Howells from Rayleigh won the best Belgian and best Dutch bantams. Jane Wood from Chingford won the best junior exhibit.
