Friday saw the ladies of Regiment Way Golf Centre play at Maldon Golf Club in the first round of "The Mail on Sunday" National Golf Competition.

The RWGC team, captained by Val Cook and made up by Lorraine Simmonds, Elaine Jewitt and Wendy Kirkby lost to the more experienced Maldon team by three matches to one.

The only win came from Val Cook on the 18th hole.

On Sunday, the men's team is due to play their "Mail on Sunday" match at home to Bentley Golf Club.

Sufficent breaks in the weather have occurred for both the ladies and mens sections of Chelmsford Golf Club to have completed some competitions.

The men had variable weather for their February Medal, a reasonable day on Saturday but cold winds for the Sunday.

The effects were reflected in the scores with only two competitors scoring above 36 on Sunday against 12 for the Saturday.

The Saturday results were: 1st D. Gray (30 points); 2nd R. Bewers (39 points) on countback from B. Tolani and B. Matthews (38 points), P. Cass (37 points), C. Guy on countback from T. Nicholas, L. Cutbush, P. Turral and M. Lindsey.

Sunday saw J. Wade record 39 points, followed by A. Murray (37), J. Hiluta (35) on countback from D. Nairn, P. Adam (34) on countback from S. Deacon, M. Lindsey and N. Scott.
