The Greater London Leopards, who play at the Brentwood Leisure Centre, are proving that they can mix it with the country's top basketball teams.

They had a remarkable January by beating three of the top six Budweiser League teams, while taking another, Birmingham, to overtime, before being beaten by just one point.

What is a particular achievement is that they were only beaten by just two points by both of the two top teams, Manchester and Sheffield, in what television commentators described as two of the best games of basketball seen in all competitions this season.

The Leopards' coach Billy Mims has also seen his hard work and success being recognised because he was voted the Budweiser basketball coach for the month in January.

There is also praise for the Leopards from all areas of the league as both Tony Holley and Tony Dorsey of the Manchester Giants paid tribute to them on Sky Sports, saying that if the current team had been together since the beginning of the season they would most certainly be in contention for the league title.

As the final six weeks of the season approaches all the games will be fiercely contested as each team is jostling for a play-off position or to improve their current position in the league table.

The Leopards are back in action at the Brentwood Leisure Centre on Wednesday, (February 17), when they take on the Chester Jets (tip-off at 7.30pm).
