Chelmsford Chieftains continued their superb run of form with Saturday's emphatic demolition of league leaders Solihull Blaze. at the Riverside Ice & Leisure Centre.

Chieftains opened the scoring on 6.11 when Craig Metcalf tucked away an opportunist goal after Tari Suwari and Brian McLaughlin had pressured the Blaze defence.

Chieftains made it 2-0 on 6.30 when Tero Sarkinierni picked the puck up in his own half of the ice, skated the length of the ice and gave Stephen Doyle no chance in the Solihull net.

Before the home crowd had a chance to let the score sink in, Chieftains made it 3-0.

Strong work by Sarkinierni left John Cotton to find David Heavey who smashed in a fine goal.

A first period blitz was complete when Karl Rogers and Andy Hannah's fine move was finished in style by Cotton.

Chieftains, with Chad Macleod in fine form in goal and a defence which is now giving little away, started the second period the stronger, and scored with their first attack of the period.

Cotton saw his shot blocked by Doyle only for Rogers to swipe home the rebound.

Blaze, with the league's worst disciplinary record, started to rough up the game, but found referee Ashraff in no mood to let their misdemeanors pass by without penalty.

It was on a power play with Steve Chartrand penalised that Chieftains went 6-0 up.

A swift break then saw Heavey's perfect cross tucked in by Cotton.

Blaze netted a consolation goal when Seppo Rajpar found Anthony Kelham who gave Macleod no chance.

Chieftains came out for the final period defending in depth and relying on the swift counter attack and with poor Blaze finishing and the inspirational Macleod frustrated Blaze time and again.

As the game edged towards its final minutes Solihull picked up a string of petty minor penalties and on 57.36, with the teams even handed, a fine Chieftains' move by Sarkinierni left the onrushing Metcalf to smash in a great goal.

On a night when every Chieftains' player deserved an honour, Macleod collected the man-of-the-match award and with Chieftains fans staying on to give the team a superb ovation, Blaze goalkeeper Stephen Doyle stepped out of line with referee, Ashraff, and was given a game misconduct penalty

It's there . . Chelmsford Chieftains and their supporters celebrate Chieftains second goal against Solihull Blaze on Saturday.
