A finger-licking challenge is to be put to sweet tooths in Essex - for a good cause.

Basildon bakers Don Millers will be challenging customers to eat a doughnut without licking their lips to raise cash for children during National Doughnut Week.

The week, starting Monday, February 22, is a nationwide event which aims to get people licking their lips in aid of Save the Children.

The company will be pledging 5p for every doughnut sold during the week to the charity.

David Holliday, marketing director for Don Millers, said: "We want giving to be fun.

"We hope to raise as much money as we can for Save the Children's vital work and feel the customer can get enjoyment at the same time. We are looking to do a 'don't lick your lips' challenge - anything to raise the profile."

Clare McKeown, head of corporate development at Save the Children, said: "We are thrilled with the enthusiasm Don Miller have shown for this event.

"Thanks to them, this event will raise much-needed funds we can put directly towards helping some of the poorest and most disadvantaged children in the world."
