A member of a Colchester boy band who was attacked is determined to continue a singing career which hits out at thugs and bullies.

Tim Boon, 20, was attacked in London Road, Copford, on Saturday after a night out with friends at Kings Nightclub.

Tim is a member of Colchester band Wild Within, who have recently completed a tour of the country spreading the anti-bullying message to schoolchildren - don't suffer in silence.

The band's latest project is an anti-racist song based on past personal experiences.

His mum and band manager Pam Boon said: "Both my sons suffered bullying at school, often because of the colour of their skin."

Yesterday Tim was at home in Kingfisher Close, Longridge, recovering from injuries to his head, face, arms and chest.

"I was waiting for a taxi when I was attacked from behind, punched in the face and kicked to the floor," he said.

"The next thing I knew I was in hospital after being unconscious for about five hours."

Tim, formerly a pupil at Sir Charles Lucas School, is determined the attack will not stop him continuing his career.

A full medical check-up to ensure there has been no permanent damage to his ears or throat will be carried out once the swelling and bruising has gone.

Wild Within, which Tim appears in along with brother James, David O'Shea and Mathew Rampton, are continuing a UK promotional tour during 1999 as well as a week in New York in April.

They are also appearing on bills with well known artists Natalie Imbruglia and Steps.

A man has been questioned and released on police bail in relation to the attack.
