Olympic gold medal winner Tessa Sanderson paid a visit to White Notley Primary School last week.

Pupils and staff chatted with the champion javelin thrower who struck gold in 1984.

Tessa was visiting the school as part of the BT Top Sports scheme, which aims to boost sports teaching in schools by offering training and equipment.

Head teacher Sue Bennett said that children too young to remember Tessa had used the internet to find out about her.

"They went home and spoke to their parents, who remembered her and were very impressed," she said.

Tessa is pictured with White Notley youngsters June Smith, seven, and Tom Joyner, six.
