For most of the first half of Bank Holiday Monday's Essex derby match, it was end to end football and there was little to choose between the teams.

The only goal of the first period came on the half hour when Olley Sanders the Dragons goalkeeper failing to gather a high ball and as it bounced goalwards, Wayne Vaughan was on hand to make sure it went in.

There were many bookings and Wivenhoe's Kris Huckstepp received a second yellow card soon after the break for which he was sent off.

Almost immediately, Witham went further ahad when Adam Morrish turned smartly in the area and shot past Sanders.

The hosts went further ahead when Lee Guiver scored from the penalty spot after he had been pulled down by Sanders.

Wivenhoe had a good spell and had a shot hit a post before Julian Hazel pulled a goal back with a good shot on the run.

Witham finished much stronger with Guiver (who had been a thorn in the visitor's side throughout the game) going close as did Justin Pearce the Witham captain in the closing seconds.

Meanwhile, Wayne Vaughan's loan period at Witham has now finished and he has returned to Tottenham Hotspur.
