A woman is outraged at the mess travellers left when they moved off a car park near her home.

An abandoned caravan, dirty babies' nappies, domestic waste and "half-a-tonne" of hard core were left on the Commission for New Town's car park in Mandeville Way near Laindon Station.

School teacher Annie Humphries contacted the CNT after the travellers moved off the site on March 20 - but is still waiting for something to be done.

The 49-year-old of Stebbings, Laindon, said: "It's a health risk now the warm weather and Easter school holidays are here.

"People ride their horses near the site and also walk their dogs nearby.

"The CNT must make more than £70,000 a year from this car park by charging commuters £1.50 a day but spends hardly anything on security.

"This three week delay by CNT is deplorable. They quickly issued writs to the trespassers when their income was threatened, but who is making the CNT accountable for their actions?

"It's not as if we can vote the CNT out."

A spokesman for the CNT said yesterday: "We are making every effort to get in and clear the site today. If not we will be doing the work on Tuesday.

"The court hearing to remove the travellers did not take place until Friday March 26.

"Cleansing contractors have been appointed and we would like to assure residents that every effort is being made to tidy up the site."

Angry - Annie Humphries stands amid the debris left by the travellers
