With the majority of motorcycle Road Race fans heading for Donnington Park for the World Superbike Round, a larger than expected contingent of Colchester enthusiasts travelled to Snetterton in Norfolk to watch their local riders in action.

They certainly were not disappointed. Marks Tey's Gary Waylen was in fine form. A practice session earlier in the week at the circuit and a change of tyres from Dunlop to Michelin helped the emerging star to his most impressive performances to date.

On Saturday Gary competed in four events, bringing home his Ron Parkinson Kawasaki ZX6R in sixth place in his first race in the 600 Supersport Championship, improving his previous best time by almost 0.5 of a second.

In his second race Gary produced his most outstanding performance, leading for more than half of the race and recording his fastest ever lap of the circuit at 1:13.99 - an average speed of 93.46mph.

He was piped in me sprint for the line by the experienced, and championship leader, Luke Quigley.

In his third Championship race Gary started well and was well in contention for another excellent result.

But gearbox problems forced him to ease off the pace and settle for valuable points in sixth place.

Gary topped of a splendid day by easily winning me 'Rookie' race win a new 'Rookie lap record'. On Sunday Gary was still 'on the boil'.

In his first race, the 600 Supersport Championship' he again had a race-long battle with the eventual race winner Luke Quigley, battling all the way to the chequered flag to record another fine second place.

His weekend was completed win another well deserved win in the 'Rookie' race but not before he had made his supporters hearts flutter win an excursion on to the grass at the chicane.

Fellow Colchester and Kawasaki Rider Kieron Hayes left the Norfolk circuit wearing the biggest smile imaginable after a very impressive weekend. Kieron riding a Kawasaki ZXR400 in the 'Rookie 400 series' produced some very creditable performances with two 1st and two 2nd places.

His best performance saw him finish 6th in the 400 Supersport championship which was well deserved after the problems he has suffered at earlier rounds.

The action moves to Oulton Park in two weeks time.
