A victim of crime today claimed that police failed to turn up to investigate a burglary at his house until more than a week later.

Kevin Panruker, of London Road, Clacton, said his home was raided while he was on holiday in Great Yarmouth.

His brother discovered the burglary when he checked the property on April 20. Mr Panruker said he was eventually told an officer would be round to see him on Sunday - after more than 15 telephone calls to police.

However, police said an officer visited the house last Thursday, and that no-one was in when they called earlier.

Mr Panrucker said his wife's Mercedes car was stolen with other possessions and documents.

"My brother eventually found the car himself in Langham Drive - the dashboard was badly smashed and the radio stolen," he said.

"I don't see how they could expect to catch those responsible or find any of the things which were stolen having left it for such a long time."

Mr Panruker said he contacted all taxi firms in the Clacton area and offered £100 to anyone who spotted the car in an effort to find it.

"I feel it is absolutely disgusting that my brother and I should have to do this ourselves," he added.

"All I got when I contacted the police was excuses that there was no-one available or they were short-staffed.

"I spoke to many different people but I kept getting the same answer."

Acting Supt Peter Anderson of Clacton Police said: "We have made every attempt to respond over this incident. We have made inquiries and are continuing to do so.

"We have attended in response to calls by Mr Panruker or his brother on a number of occasions but they have not been there when we arrived."
