LOUGHTON 195-7

OLD SOUTHENDIAN 192-9

(MATCH DRAWN)

A storming ninth-wicket partnership salvaged a draw for Old Southendian.

Loughton opener Greenhill had provided the perfect base for the visitors by hitting 87, with Bayney (32) and Taiani (25) raising their total to 195-7.

Dave Slaughter (3-58) and James Blackmore (2-44) were Southendian's main wicket-takers, although Chris Sorrell's impressive opening spell went unrewarded as he finished with 0-14 off eight overs.

Southendian initially thrived in response, as Jonathan Newbery (28) and Des Beckett (25) blitzed 58 from 42 balls.

However, a middle-order collapse left Southendian perilously close to defeat, before Sorrell (34 not out) and Neil Campbell (25) smashed 55 runs in 30 minutes.

T James was Loughton's outstanding bowler, with 5-59, but Southendian survived on 192-9. Draw for seconds

WESTCLIFF 184-7

Tim Dennis hit 54 and Jonathan James 38 as the old boys made 187-9, with V Bird claiming 2-25 and P Barnes 2-29.

WESTCLIFF 62 all out

OLD SOUTHENDIAN THIRDS 94 all out

(OLD SOUTHENDIAN WON)

Damp conditions meant considerable swing for the seam bowlers at Blenheim Park - and an incredible 20 wickets falling for 156 runs.

Nigel Davies, Southendian thirds' opener and skipper, made what, in the difficult conditions, was a highly-respectable 35, but Oddwell (3-19) and Furleigh (2-22) epitomised Westcliff's productive bowling.

Westcliff were reeling at 39-9, and finally fell 32 runs short.

Only Das Gupta (14) offered resistance, as Terry Hammond senior (4-8 in 10 overs) and Steve Giles (3-12) regularly broke through. Harold conquered

OLD SOUTHENDIAN FOURTHS 224-6

HAROLD WOOD 91 all out

(OLD SOUTHENDIAN WON)

Southendian overwhelmed Harold Wood by 133 runs after John Keating's 87 put the old boys in command.

Ian Bysouth cracked 41 in 24 balls and Roby Wright hit 32 as Southendian made a useful 224-6 in 38 overs. Then Tony Rolph (3-31) and Ricky Stephenson (2-24) were destroyers-in-chief as Harold Wood disintegrated to 91 all out. Old dogs show off new tricks

SPRINGFIELD 180-9

OLD SOUTHENDIAN SUNDAY FIRSTS 183-5

(OLD SOUTHENDIAN WON)

Des Beckett starred with bat and ball as Southendian romped to a fine team triumph in their first ever Ibex Sunday League game.

They restricted Springfield to 180-9 in the allocated 45 overs, with Des Beckett taking 3-13 in nine overs and David Elcock 3-34 in eight.

Symonds (34), Ellis (32) and Howell (32 not out) were Springfield's leading scorers.

Beckett (77) and Jonathan James 35) took Southendian to victory, despite 2-17 from Ellis.

The Southchurch Park side earned 23 points, compared to Springfield's five. Win for Leigh

LEIGH CENTURIONS 146-9

(LEIGH WON)

Steady contributions from Terry Hammond senior and Stuart Cannon, who both made 39, failed to save Southendian Sunday second XI from the narrowest of defeats.

Old Boys were out for 145 after 38 overs, with Leigh bowler Heighton recording 3-10 from just three overs, including two maidens. Wallcott notched 2-26.

Centurions crept to victory at 146-9 after 44 overs, courtesy of an unbroken partnership between Heighton (29) and Norman (22).
