Saturday saw a group of Braintree & Bocking Swimming Club members compete in the First round of the Southern Counties Age Group Championships.

All the competition was for 11/12 year olds and Women's Open categories.

Clare Carter had an excellent weekend gaining first place in: Women's 50m back, 200m free, 100m back and 200m back. Clare also was third in Women's 400m free, fourth in Women's 50m free and sixth in Women's 200m I.M.

Also swimming were: Emma Maxfield, Helen Clare, Jennie Butler, Jacinth Whittaker, Daniel Clare and Jonathan Goulds.

In the Women's 4 x 100m relays, Braintree had some outstanding results against much larger clubs.

In the free, Clare Carter, Jennie Butler, Emma Maxfield, Shelley Wakeling were fourth and in the Medley, Clare Carter, Helen Clare, Jennie Butler and Emma Maxfield finished sixth.

In a closely contested Novice Gala at Ipswich on Saturday only 10 points separated the top four clubs with Braintree in first place, only three points ahead of second placed Ipswich.

First places in the Braintree teams went to: Jonathan Fowell, 10 yrs, 25m fly and free, Danielle Browning 10 yr 25m fly and free, Emma Stubbs 13yr 50m fly, Gemma Taylor 10yr 25m breast, Joanna Tickner 13yr 50m breast.

First placed relay team: 10/11 year medley - Samantha Mann, Hannah Savage, Faye Jolly, Gemma Taylor.

Second places were to: Oliver Savage 13yr 50m free, Samantha Mann 10 yr, 25m back, Faye Jolly 11 yr 50m free, Charlotte Rolfe 12 yr 50m back.

Two boys travelled to Spalding to compete in the annual Spalding Open meet. Lee Sibley had great success in the 14 year age group swimming to fourth place in 100m free, sixth place in the 100m fly and back and first reserve in 100m breast.

Robert Beard, 15, swimming in 16 year/over age group had some good swims, against much older swimmers and gained new p.b. times in the 100m fly, breast, free and back.
