Sporty students were today putting the finishing touches to a fun day for everyone at SEEVIC College.

It will take place at Canvey's Waterside Farm centre on Friday - after much effort from those working towards the Higher Sports Leaders' award.

The course develops students skills in promoting a range of activities across the community and is also a qualification for those hoping to progress in coaching.

The theme of the fun day will be to promote sport for all students whatever their ability or background.

It will prove that there is more to college life than classroom work.

Tina Adlam, a coach at the college in Runnymede Chase, Thundersley, said: "This has been a fantastic learning experience for all the students involved.

"They have organised the day well and it has been a real eye-opener in encouraging sport for all, whatever the individual's level of ability or age."

She thanked Waterside Farm which has donated the use of its athletics track free of charge and it is hoped the bash could now become an annual event.

The students have also been fundraising to cover the cost of certificates and trophies.

All at the college have been invited to attend, such as those who are on the Foundation Studies course.

It has been running for nearly 20 years and was set up for pupils from local schools with moderate to severe learning difficulties, including those with secondary handicaps who want further education.

Members of the Maybrook day centre who have been attending on a weekly basis will also be taking part in the day, which will be led by those working for the award.
