The Essex Roads Cycling Club were victors in the Essex Cycle Racing Associations teams of five riders event for the third successive year.

The event, held over 25 miles on Sunday, was won in a time of four hours 55 minutes six seconds, which gave the Essex Roads CC team victory by just 27 seconds from the Southend & CO Wheelers with the Becontree Wheelers in five hours and 30 seconds.

The winning team consisted of event organiser Nick Hastler (57m 6s) Colin Crickmore 57m 24s, Steve Ridman 58m 34s, Steve Green 1hr 38s and Bill Thomas 1hr 1m 24s.

The ride of the morning came from Colin Crickmore who was only riding his second event, and it is thought that he will be one to look out for in the future.

Others to ride from the Essex Roads were Grahame Beale 1hr 1m 47s, Gary Glenister 1hr 1m 53s, Brian Atkinson 1hr 3m 47s, Dave Lobley 1hr 6m 40s, Ray Smith 1hr 10m 24s and Mick Scott 1hr 12m 46s.

Fastest rider on the day was Dave Nock from Chelmsford who recorded 57m 2s.

In the evening 10 series last year's winner Grahame Beale is leading after five events.

The latest event held on the South Hanningfield circuit which goes around the reservoir was won by Nick Hastler in a time of 23m 59s from Steve Tidiman 24m 32s with Grahame Beale third in 25m 5s.

Other times were Brian Atkinson 26m 26s, Gary Glenister 27m 54s, Mark Stanbury 28m 9s, Dave Griffiths 28m 21s, Dave Lobley 28m 34s, Steve Alabush 30m 39s, Tim Turner 30m 59s, Peter McRobert 30m 35s, Stuart Jago 30m 45s, Russell Fisher 31m 33s, David Spraggins 31m 43s, Lucy Thompson 31m 45s and Colin Alabush 32m 8s.
