Bank workers across Essex were today waiting to hear if their jobs are to be axed.
Barclays has announced it is to cut 6,000 positions.
The news comes as building work reaches its final stages on the Barclays assurance headquarters in Basildon.
It is said the cuts would mostly be made through voluntary redundancies and natural staff turnover.
