Police investigating the deaths of two women in a road crash near Braintree on Easter Sunday have released new details in the search for witnesses.

They say two cars were seen driving ''erratically'' near the scene of the crash which claimed the lives of Jean Casey, 66, of Bicknacre, and Louisa Clowes, 88, from Birmingham.

The two women were travelling together when they were involved in the two-vehicle collision on the A131 Braintree bypass near Marks Farm.

The accident happened at around 11.30am on April 4.

Police are appealing for information about two cars, a dark old-style Audi and a white Austin Montego, which were seen driving erratically at the time of the accident.

The Montego driver is described as being in his late teens or early 20s with long, straggly dark hair and unshaven.

Neither driver stopped at the scene.

Anyone with information should call Bocking traffic police on 01376 330722.
