Peter Barker, Brentwood School's outstanding squash player, recently captained the English Under 17 team to victory in the European Championships at Lokeven, near Brussels.

Peter, 15, who lives in Upminster and trains at both the school and the Kingswood Sports Centre in Basildon, is coached by his brother Phil who is ranked No 5 senior squash player in Britain and 206 in the world.

Peter, who is currently South of England Under 17 champion and the German Under 17 trophy holder, was part of a three player team that also included James Willstrop, of Yorkshire and Lauren Lengthorn of Lancashire.

They beat Germany 2-1 in the final after beating Spain in the semi-finals.

Following a bout of glandular fever and an operation for the removal of an ingrown toe-nail, Peter's success had to be put on hold earlier this year.

But he now seems to be back on form and hitting the ball with great power.

Peter was a member of Brentwood School's Under 19 boys' squad which recently won the national schools final at Winchester.

The boys hit top form to defeat Millfield, coached by former British international and world champion Jonah Barrington, 4-1 in the semi-final and then crushed Wycliffe College, Gloucestershire 3-2 in the final.

In the recent Scottish Open Philip Barker reached the Under 19 final before losing in a hard fought match to the World No 1 under 19 player from Malaysia, having been earlier beaten in the semi-finals of the British Open by the same opponent.
