COGGESHALL.................................189-8

BRAINTREE......................................191-2

(Braintree won by eight wickets)

(Jaygate Homes Two Counties Division Two)

Dave Denny continued his impressive start to the 1999 season by scoring an undefeated century as Braintree made it eight victories from eight matches, following their eight wicket win at Coggeshall on Saturday.

After electing to bat first, Coggeshall were a good 50 runs short of letting a challenging target as they had to settle for a 189 for eight total.

Coggeshall's top scorer was Steyn who made 60 while Cant finished undefeated on 39.

Braintree's opening attack of Dave Hale and Steve Rose produced a tight opening spell on the play track as they restricted Coggeshall 42 for two from the first 18 overs.

In reply, despite losing the early wicket of 'injury' victim Ian Butcher, Braintree coasted to their victory target with four overs to spare.

After the early loss of their first wicket, Dave Denny and Neil Williams put on 106 in 23 overs.

Chris Warn then joined Denny, following Williams' departure for 46 after Williams mistimed a pull shot and was caught on the mid-wicket boundary.

After a cautious start, Warn added an undefeated 81 runs in 16 overs with Denny to take Braintree to victory.

Denny's late cut boundary brought up his century and secured the winning runs, as he completed his second League 'ton' for Braintree.

His innings included nine fours and two sixes, and Warn finished unbeaten on 44.
