EAST ANGLIAN PREMIER LEAGUE

Blistering starts to both innings could not help Clacton hit the winning trail against Swardeston.

Having lost the toss, the Seasiders reduced their Norfolk opponents to 11 for three before the home side recovered, led by captain Thomas (92), to reach 214 for nine in their maximum allocation of 72 overs.

Left with little time in which to chase their target, Clacton set off like a train, openers Trevor Moulton and Adam Seymour reaching the 60 mark in nine overs.

But then the wheels came off.

Seymour's dismissal was followed next ball by that of Rob Radley and Clacton were forced to rethink their approach.

Vice captain Gary Kirk said: "Every time we looked like getting on top we lost a wicket. In the end we had to shut up shop."

Clacton finished on 135 for seven, Moulton top scoring with 64.

Kirk said: "Trevor batted really well - the best he's done all season.

"Our bowling and fielding were the best of the season as well. In fact it took them 32 overs to reach 50."

Kirk finished with figures of four for 38 from 20 overs and skipper Andy Poole took three for 44 from 17.

Clacton, who have five draws from seven fixtures so far, are now looking to improve that record at home to Godmanchester on Saturday.
