Horndon 187

Walthamstow 93

(Horndon won)

Horndon looked in trouble in Division One at 93-8 but were rescued by an "Alex Tudor style" recovery, with number nine batsman Mark Warren wading in with an unbeaten 53.

Lowly hosts Walthamstow were always struggling against Kevin Price's pace and, with only ten men, collapsed to 93 all out. Price took 6-19 and two other wickets fell to Russell Hamilton, with one run out.

Skipper's star role

Orsett and Thurrock 219-6

Hadleigh and Thundersley 221-4

(Hadleigh won)

A blistering knock of 117 from skipper Neil Barry set in-form Hadleigh up for their second Shepherd Neame League Division One win of the season.

Hadleigh have become something of draw specialists this term and are still unbeaten in the League.

Orsett made 219-6 after winning the toss and batting first.

S Moon shone with 70 and T Shaw 53, but Tim Lowes took 2-41 and young Steve Board, making his debut for the season, 1-28.

There was no stopping Barry who got good support from Ankar Patel (39 not out) and Mike Chapman who, relieved of his wicketkeeper duties and allowed to concentrate on his batting, made a sparkling 40.

N Hume took 2-32 but it was Hadleigh who had reason to smile with a handy haul of a maximum 18 points.

Duncan paves way for first Westcliff win

Chingford 199-7

Westcliff 200-1

(Westcliff won)

A superb opening stand between Duncan Paveling and Steven Green saw Westcliff to their first victory of the Division One season.

Chingford were reduced to 199-7 at Chalkwell with Romesh Paul taking 4-41 in 16 overs. Main resistance came from Jamie Hill with an unbeaten 84.

However, Paveling struck with a superb unbeaten 107 and Green gave terrific support with 62 to see Westcliff home.

Billericay thrashed after shock collapse

Hainault and Clayhall 159

Billericay 50

(Hainault won)

Billericay lost their first Shepherd Neame League Premier Division game when they failed to show any application in their batting.

It was all so sad as they had been given a fighting chance by great medium-pace bowling from Jon Walford on an unpredictable wicket.

He reduced hosts Hainault from 80-0 to 159 all out with 7-29 in a 20-over spell, but Billericay were never in with a real chance in reply as they collapsed to 10-6.

A mini revival was launched, but not enough to avoid defeat as Billericay's title hopes suffered an unexpected slump.

Wickford's problems get worse

Wickford 230-8

Wanstead 234-3

(Wanstead won)

Bottom-placed Wickford's Premier Division woes were underlined when Jamie Foster's undefeated 115 guided fellow strugglers Wanstead to a seven-wicket triumph.

Wickford's reasonable total had earlier suggested that skipper Jamie Wright is correct in his assessment that their batting strength, at least, is reasonably competent.

However, Wanstead never looked in danger of losing.

One very minor consolation for Wickford was that Woodford Wells - one place above them - also lost, by five wickets against Fives &Heronians.
