Several former Chelmsford City players will be playing with new clubs when the forthcoming season kicks off next month.

Ex-City skipper Adrian Owers, who last season was with Sudbury Wanderers, and before that, Braintree Town, has joined Jewson League Premier Division side, Maldon Town.

Former striker Bobby Mayes has also moved on to another Jewson League Premier Division side - Diss Town - having ended last season at Felixstowe Town & Port after being released by Braintree Town.

Speedy winger Christian McCann, who walked out of City midway through last season and joined Baldock Town has left the Hertfordshire club to link up again with ex-City coach Chris Tovey at Cambridge City.

The Milton Road club's coffers have also received a welcome boost with the £75,000 transfer of striker Neil Cogger to new Premier Division side Sunderland, where he now becomes a full-time professional.

In the FA Cup preliminary round on August 21, Braintree Town host Leyton Pennant, Witham visit Jewson League side Ely City, Maldon Town face a tough trip to Romford and Tiptree United entertain London Colney.

Heybridge Swifts are exempt to the second qualifying round.

In the FA Trophy first round, on October 9, Heybridge Swifts entertain Weston-Super Mare, while Braintree Town host Clevedon Town.

In the FA Vase first qualifying round on September 11, Witham Town visit Hullbridge and if they win, they will go to Ely City in the next round on September 25, when Maldon come into the competition by hosting Bicester.

In the FA Youth Cup, Chelmsford City entertain Canvey Island in the first qualifying round, on a date yet to be fixed, while Witham Town are at home to Leighton Town.
