The secret weapon used by army troops to win the trust of war-weary Kosovan children has finally been unveiled.

Basildon ex-soldier George King has provided the 518 Pioneer Squadron with all the ammunition they need to woo the youngsters - a huge delivery of sweets.

Mr King, whose son Cpl Dave King is a section commander with the squadron, has shipped out 27kg of sweets, collected through his friends and relatives.

Capt Chris Starbuck, speaking from Kosovo, said: "These children seem to have very little in the way of quality of life and when given sweets, you think they had won the lottery!

"On behalf of all the members of our squadron, Royal Logistics Corps and the children of Pristina, I would like to thank Mr King and everyone who has assisted and supported him in raising the ammunition for Operation Sweet Tooth."
