NORTH SHOEBURY 275-5

TURLING IIs 130 all out

(NORTH SHOEBURY WON)

Brian Gardiner's 102 took him soaring past 1,000 runs for the season as North Shoebury surged more than 60 points clear in the T Rippon Mid-Essex League Division Seven.

Jim Cousen (59) and Phil Slade (23) provided the back-up, while Gardiner reached his magical mark with his 32nd run.

Michael Chaplin (2-74) and Daniel Twin (2-60) were Turling's most effective bowlers. Turling were soon reeling in reply at 16-4 off ten overs - and it was Chaplin again who did most to salvage some pride, hitting four sixes in his 73.

Peter Ness (20) also battled in vain, with Jerry Joseph (3-39), Cousen (2-46), Gardiner (2-19) and Phil Pope (2-11) guiding North Shoebury to a 145-run victory.

Last gasp victory

CHERRY TREE 152-6

CHEQUERS 154-3

(CHEQUERS WON)

Canewdon side Chequers grabbed a last-ball victory when they met Cherry Tree in a friendly at Broomhills.

Chasing 153 to win, Chequers were on 150 when the final delivery was made, but Simon Broad (91 not out) knocked a four to clinch the game.

Chris Tanton made 39 as he formed an opening partnership with Broad, while Jim Pooley added 15 to the innings. Oggie Holyland led the Cherry Tree attack with 1-15.

Chequers had earlier enjoyed a none too fortuitous time with the ball and their best bowling figures were Sam Sharpe's 2-14. Holyland led the Cherry Tree batsmen with 54 and Greg Dutton hit a useful 48.

Chequers checkmated

SOUTH FAMBRIDGE 150-7

CHEQUERS 134

(SOUTH FAMBRIDGE WON)

A batting collapse ended Chequers' hopes of winning this friendly game at Ashingdon.

Simon Broad repeated his fine batting display against Cherry Tree as he made 79 in reply to South Fambridge's 150-7.

However, he received little support from his team-mates, with Kevin Cornwall (12) and Paul Geiss (ten) the only batsmen offering resistance.

Two players were out for ducks and the rest put in poor performances as Chequers crashed to 134 all out. Herbert was Fam-bridge's bowling star, taking 3-23.

South Fambridge batted first and made 150-7 thanks to Flop Thorpe's 32, skipper Dave Redmond's 27 not out, Wilson's 27 and wicketkeeper Steve Binley's 25.

Chequer's attack enjoyed some happy hunting as Geiss claimed 3-14 and Cornwall 2-26.
