A beer fan from Billericay has sunk his final pint after a six-month charity pub crawl of every Firkin pub in the country.

Mike Smart, 22, was given thousands of free pints as landlords supported his visit to the 189 outlets.

Mr Smart, of Second Avenue, raised more than £2,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital as sponsors backed his boozy tour.

He set off from Dover in March before heading to the South Coast and then to the North, Wales and Scotland.

He would pitch his tent in the pub's grounds after to sleep off each session.

Mr Smart, who works as an assistant manager at the Fatling and Firkin in Hornchurch, was welcomed back by his colleagues at another boozy knees-up last night.

Mum Mary said on Friday: "He's now recovering from his final party and has handed the cheque over.

"He thought the beer tour would be a great way of raising money and all the landlords have been very kind to him. He's had a really great time and I'm very proud of him."
