A man has been sentenced to 60 hours community service after using threatening and abusive behaviour in a Basildon pub.

John Bailey, 44, Little Lullaway, Basildon, pleaded guilty at Basildon Crown Court. Bailey had been drinking all night at the Beehive pub in Southernhay, Basildon, and was told he couldn't have more drinks.

He returned the next day and was told he was barred. When he asked why he was told the pub didn't need a reason.

Bailey then replied: "If I spit in your face will that be a good enough reason?"

When the pub manager was called Bailey said he was going to come back and smash the pub windows.

He also made various threats against the staff and manager.
