Star-spotting spectators may have had difficulty keeping their eye on the ball at the William Roache Celebrity-AM charity golf gala.

On Sunday, glorious sunshine brought out the crowds along with a host of celebrity golfers.

Held at Eddy Shah's Golf and Country Club at Earls Colne the word celebrity was certainly not used lightly.

Among the stars taking to the fairways to do battle in the 18-hole competition were Eddie "the Eagle" Edwards, Bruce Grobbelaar, Hans Segers, Pete Murray and George Burley.

Each team included a celebrity and Manchester accountants Lopian Gross Barnett emerged victorious at the 18th hole - with a little help from Pete Murray.

This is the fifth year of the tournament and Jennifer Shah said the event went from strength to strength.

Though the money is still being counted, Mrs Shah said the day had raised somewhere in the region of £25,000 for The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and The Outward Bound Trust.
