Colchester United boss Steve Whitton has brought former Brighton manager and U's loanee Jeff Wood into the club as a goalkeeper coach.
Former West Ham, Norwich and Millwall defender Kenny Brown, son of former Hammers and England central defender Ken Brown, was also starting a trial period at Layer Road.
Whitton said, as he continues to seek ways to bolster his leaky defence: "I would like to think I can sign Kenny if his trial period works out OK."
Good news for Whitton is the fact that long-term injury victim Aaron Skelton was hoping to start training yesterday. Skelton has not played since breaking an ankle at Gillingham nearly eight months ago.
Midfielder-cum-striker Jason Dozzell was also expected to begin light duties after cracking a rib in the recent 4-0 defeat at Bournemouth.
